ISR4461-SEC/K9 is the Cisco ISR 4461 with Security Bundle. The Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR) revolutionize WAN communications in the enterprise branch. With new levels of builtin intelligent network capabilities and convergence, the routers specifically address the growing need for application-aware networking in distributed enterprise sites. These locations tend to have lean IT resources. But they often also have a growing need for direct communication with both private data centers and public clouds across diverse links, including Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) VPNs and the Internet.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ISR4461-SEC/K9 is a Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Router that includes the Security (SEC) license bundle, designed for secure enterprise WAN and branch routing. It combines high-performance routing with integrated security features such as VPN encryption and secure WAN connectivity for enterprise environments.
“SEC/K9” indicates that the router comes with Cisco’s Security Bundle license, which enables enterprise security capabilities like IPsec VPN, encrypted traffic, and advanced WAN protection features. This bundle is widely searched because it simplifies deploying secure branch networks without extra licensing.
The ISR4461-SEC/K9 is commonly used for: Enterprise branch WAN edge Secure VPN aggregation MPLS and Internet WAN connectivity Private data center connectivity Hybrid cloud routing It is designed for organizations that need secure, scalable enterprise branch connectivity.
The ISR4461-SEC/K9 supports up to 1.5 Gbps aggregate throughput, making it suitable for medium to large enterprise branch sites that require secure and stable WAN performance.
Yes. ISR 4000 Series platforms can run Cisco IOS XE and support SD-WAN deployments, allowing centralized policy control and application-aware routing in modern enterprise WAN architectures.
The main difference is licensing: ISR4461-SEC/K9 → Includes Security bundle (VPN + security features) ISR4461/K9 → Base hardware without bundled security license Organizations needing secure WAN connectivity usually prefer the SEC version.
This model remains popular because: Many enterprises still operate ISR 4000 networks Security bundle licensing is simple and reliable It supports SD-WAN migration paths Strong enterprise branch performance These factors keep online search demand high.
Cisco announced end-of-sale for the ISR4461 Series with last order date January 20, 2025, but support continues until January 31, 2030 for customers with active contracts. This is a very common search topic when enterprises plan upgrades.
Yes. The Security bundle enables key enterprise features such as: IPsec VPN encryption Secure WAN traffic routing Policy-based security services Encrypted branch connectivity This is one of the main reasons this model is heavily searched by enterprise IT teams.
Yes. It is widely deployed in enterprise branch environments because it offers: Secure WAN routing Modular hardware expansion High reliability Integrated security licensing These features make it a popular choice for enterprise branch and regional hub sites.
Typical onboard interfaces include: 4 × Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 ports 4 × SFP-based ports 3 × NIM slots for expansion 3 × enhanced service-module slots This modular design allows flexible WAN and LAN expansion for enterprise deployments.
